What we currently provide

  • An OFSTED-approved daily Sunshine Early Years Centre, offering childcare provision for four hours each weekday from 08:45 to 12:45pm. This is a church-based charitable business providing an essential service, in constant demand.
  • Uniformed and other youth and children's activities within the three uniting churches, comprising some 190 local children
  • Work with the over-60s which includes provision of luncheon clubs, coffee mornings, craftwork, keep-fir through dancing.

The Needs

  • A growing need for wrap around childcare in th area for working parents with small children
  • An urgent demand for a breakfast club and a 'walking bus' service to and from school for their pupils
  • Tameside Youth Services are keen to develop more targetted youth activities in this area on various evenings in the week
  • More activities and provision for the elderly

Meeting the Needs

In building partnerships with local agencies, we will utilise the new Centre to:

  • Run fitness courses for the elderly, including; aerobics, yoga, rambling and dancing
  • Encourage the formation of a variety of interest and hobby clubs from art to angling, reading clubs to history and storytelling - depending on demand
  • Promote ICT as a means of learning and extending social contact via email, the internet and related media
  • Enhance contact with parents and young people to build relevant services and programmes to support families and households
  • Work with young people and involve them in activities to foster cohesion among and between generations
  • Develop mentoring projects between the generations to support and encourage self-confidence and skills-building among young people
  • Run a Breakfast Club, a Walking Bus service and increase the capacity of the Sunshine Early Years Club to offer more hours and places
  • Develop carers and toddlers work as a means of contact and support

The Appeal target is £1,890,000 which will be raised by local fund-raising efforts.
