About us

COTE Community Association is a partnership of three congregations: St. Matthews United Reformed Church (Clayton), Edge Lane Methodist Church (Droylsden), St. Andrews Church of England (Droylsden).

We work together in an ecumenical spirit of co-operation to improve the quality of life for local people. We are combining together in a new building to be erected in Edge Lane, Droylsden, and, taking the opportunity to rationalise plant and resources, enabling ourselves to offer the communities we serve better standards of provision, and to extend our work meeting new needs and challenges.

The buildings we occupy are ageing, costly to maintain, built to serve another age and other needs. Equipping and adapting these buildings to meet the needs of today is costly and problematic. Raising the capital for the improvements to accord with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act would have no real cost benefit. We see our future working together to create a resource for the new century to meet our needs as faith groups and the needs of the communities we serve.

Over the past two years, we have engaged in consultation with local residents, users of the services we provide and statutory agencies working within the area. We have listened to their ideas and shared our vision for the future with them. The brief we gave to our architect was carefully informed by the feedback received from those consulted. We need to be flexible in our design to respond to new and as yet unknown needs within the area.

We know that the building of a sanctuary for the purposes of worship will not attrect statutory funding. We are seeking the finance for this from other sources.

To enable us to provide services to the community, we are seeking funding from grant making trusts.

The Appeal target is £1,890,000 which will be raised by local fund-raising efforts.
